Tunisia

The most spectacular examples of regional climate changes from the last million years have occurred as a consequence of motion of stable climate belts, rather than by changes in the mean state of those belts. One such spectacular change is the "Green Sahara" phenomenon that occurred whenever the Northern Hemisphere climate entered a relatively warm state relative to the Southern.

This network brings together a consortium of Quaternary palaeoclimate specialists based in the UK, Spain, Austria and Tunisia, with the aim to use cave deposits and surface sediments in Tunisia to test to which extent phases of "Green Sahara" reflect the motion of the tropical climate belt.
