Marc Luetscher, Christoph Spötl and Mirjam Halmen, a Master student and active caver, joined a team led by Mike Rogerson (Hull University, UK) to explore the potential of cave deposits as archives of past climate change in Tunisia. This country stretches from the Mediterranean coast across the Atlas Mountains all the way to the northern fringe of the Sahara and offers great potential to study large-scale swings in precipitation on orbital timescales.
We visited several caves jointly with local speleologists and in close collaboration with the Office National des Mines in Tunis (Moez Mansoura).
