Searching for the oldest subsurface ice

Eisgruben-Eishöhle on Sarstein is a sag-type cave with a thick body of ice. A wood remain obtained near its base in the 1990s suggests an age of the 5th millennium. As part of a larger project we re-visited this cave and performed ground penetrating radar measurements in collaboration with Ingrid Schlögel and Stefan Weginger (ZAMG).
