Speleothem Summer School 2019

Mojgan, Charlotte, Paul, Yuri and Gina attended this year’s Speleothem Science Summer School held from August 11-17 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The event gathered leading experts on all aspects of speleothem based research to talk caves, age models and isotopes. Paul won an award for one of the best student posters. Gina shared her experience in science outreach and project management with the 80 early career scientists that participated the summer school. Yuri presented a comprehensive overview of recent advances in fluid inclusion analysis and its potential for quantitative temperature reconstruction. The post-conference fieldtrip took them to some of the most iconic caves of the area, including Scarisoara Ice Cave (hosting the world’s largest and oldest underground glacier) and Bears Cave, known for it’s rich decoration and hundreds of cave bear skeletons.
