Field work Julian Alps

The Migovec massif north of Tolmin is a major karst region in the Triglav National Park. It hosts among others Slovenia’s largest cave system, the Migovec system with currently 42 km and 972 m of vertical extent.
The purpose of our trip was to study two smaller vertical caves which contain perennial ice and where Tanguy had already started research in 2019. We surveyed the snow and ice deposits and sampled for radiocarbon dating and stable water isotopes.
This research is carried out in collaboration with the local caving club Jamarska Sekcija - Planinsko društvo Tolmin (JSPDT).
