44 applications were submitted for the Lehreplus! teaching award at the University Innsbruck this year. Michael Meyer and Bastian Joachim-Mrosko developed a novel teaching concept for the module "Scientific working and writing" that found great resonance and enthused our Earth Science students. The course got rewarded with one of three Lehreplus! awards of 2020.
The module was conceptualized around the idea that each student writes a (short) scientific paper that gets submitted to an Earth Science journal and reviewed by his/her student peers. Under the guidance of Bastian and Michael each student was thus slipping into the role of an author and a reviewer in order to develop scientific writing skills and gain hands-on experience with good scientific practice.
