Field work in high-alpine karst

The Karwendel Mountains are among of the least studied karst regions of the Northern Calcareous Alps. During a  3-day field trip Tanguy Racine, Yuri Dublyansky, Andreas Treyer and Christoph Spötl visited 27 new caves in the region of Hinterkar, including ice- and firn-bearing shafts. We also observed clear signs of accelerated melting of subsurface ice and related collapse features.
