In the frame of an FWF-funded project on subglacial speleothems as palaeoclimate archive, Alex Honiat, Yidong Li, Helene Zauner and Christoph Spötl spent four days on the beautiful mountains near Samoëns. This karst region hosts large cave systems, including Gouffre Jean-Bernard (29 km long, 1.6 km deep). These caves contain mostly inactive speleothems, some of which may have formed during glacial periods.
