In honor of the 150th birthday of Otto Ampferer—a leading Austrian Alpine geologist—the Austrian Geological Society hosted a special symposium, inviting six former recipients of the Otto Ampferer Prize. The Ampferer Symposium took place on 26 March during this year’s General Assembly of the Austrian Geological Society, held at Geosphere Austria in Vienna. Michael, the 2008 recipient of the Otto Ampferer Prize, addressed a full lecture hall with a talk reflecting on his Quaternary geochronological research: “Timing is Everything—OSL Dating in the Quaternary from the Alps to the Himalaya and the Rockies.”
