Within informal collaborative effort with the Ukrainian Institute of Speleology and Karstology we study hypogene karst of the Crimea peninsula. The area has great potential to become a test-site for studying aspects of this type of speleogenesis.
In a separate project we have initiated acquisition of GNIP-type data on the stable isotopic composition of precipitation. These data, presently lacking (the closest GNIP station is located across the Black Sea) will be needed in future work on palaeoclimate and palaeohydrogeology. Monthly averaged samples of precipitation are collected at two locations, the city of Simferopol and the Chatir-dag plateau.
