OSL sampling in central Sudan

At Al Jamrab Middle and Early Palaeolithic artefacts are embedded in a complex stratified sequence of wadi sediments and interlayered paleosols. The site is situated at the western bank of the White Nile about 35 km south of Karthoum and might have been part of a "Nile corridor" that facilitated human migration from eastern and southern Africa into the Levant. We are conducting single-grain OSL dating at this site as part of an ongoing collaboration between D. Usai (center for Sudanese and Sub-Sahara studies) and A. Zerboni (University of Milano) (link).
