On behalf of the Geo-Kommission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences Christoph Spötl organised a half-day symposium "Caves: The geoscientific exploration of the last white spots on earth" which aimed at providing an up-to-date overview of national and international cave exploration activities. The symposium featured eight invited talks by experts including Gina Moseley, Yuri Dublyansky and Robbie Shone from our group and was held at the Natural History Museum in Vienna on the occasion of the International Year of Caves and Karst.
